United Association and UANPF

The United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada (“UA”) was created in 1889. For over 130 years, it has sought to help its members build a better life for themselves and their families.  Today, the UA proudly represents almost 355,000 plumbers, pipefitters, sprinkler fitters, service technicians and welders in over 300 Local Unions across North America.

Connecting the United Association and the UA National Pension Fund

More than 50 years ago, the UA saw the need for a national pension fund to offer lifetime income for a secure retirement to its members. In July 1968, the Plumbers and Pipefitters National Pension Fund was established when the first Local Union collective bargaining agreement required employer contributions to the Fund. In the years since, over 170 UA Local Unions have committed to providing their members with financial security in their retirement years by participating in what is now called the United Association National Pension Fund. The Fund is a collectively-bargained, defined benefit pension plan.  It is funded by employer contributions required under collective bargaining agreements for each hour of work that UA-represented employees perform.  The Fund currently has more than 156,000 participants.
